The difference between casting, forging, stamping and die casting

2022-10-12

Casting is to melt the raw material and let it form naturally in the molding mold. Molten liquid metal fills the cavity and cools, it is easy to produce air holes in the middle of the parts. There are two kinds of casting: high pressure casting and low pressure casting. Simply put, when you melt the metal, the pressure on the model is different, and the temperature at which the metal is heated is different from the machine used to cast it.

Forging is to heat the raw material to a certain temperature and then use tools to forge the shape. It is mainly formed at high temperature by extrusion method, which can refine the grains in the pieces. Forging is also a form of casting. The difference is that forging takes place at a lower temperature, and some forms of semi-melting can be used to make a finished metal.

Stamping is the raw material with a suitable stamping die stamping molding. The thickness of the parts is basically suitable for stamping with plate forming. Stamping is the process of making semi-finished products into finished products with machines such as punch presses at room temperature.

Die casting is based on casting using pressure to melt the raw material into the mold to get a higher density or more precise shape. Parts of great thickness, complex shape, not hot, better to use die cast. Die casting is also a way of high temperature casting. When the structure of the casting is complex and difficult, the die casting machine can be used to heat the metal into liquid, press it into the mold, and open the mold to take out the product after cooling.
